Introducing several social media policies in different organizations will be the first part. Then I will discuss some laws relating to social media, such as copyright, by looking at real cases. Finally, the ethics part will underline how the cyber bully happens via social media. Hope I could develop these points well in this post. :)
Hi Sabrina,

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner! I've been at the hospital the last few days with my partner - he's just yesterday had his appendix out! So it's been a busy few days!...

I've got a few notes here that relate to the points you are looking at discussing:

1. Social Media Policy

Social media policies allow corporations and business to monitor and manage the interaction of the public and internal staff via all social media related to the business. However the dilemma is the speed at which social media develops and the ability for policies to keep up. Its areas that MUST ensure secure social media that are at the forefront of the policy game - groups like the Military, banking and education.

Here is a good article about the Military and their use of social media policies. It’s from January this year – but still relevant: http://www.socialmediapolicytemplates.com/social-media-policy-government/army-social-media-policy/129/

I though it interesting that Walsh suggests having the social media policy as part of a company’s Policy and Procedure document. But also ensuring that it in itself is a standalone document, with one person or a group of people assigned to keep it updated. Wow! Doesn’t this just show how much new media is now a part of our lives?! Not only the fact that the social media policy is now to be considered a part of the standard Policy and Procedure document, but that people are being assigned to keep this updated – so new jobs created just to keep companies in the clear with new media!

A thought about the future here – maybe we will be relying on groups like the Military, banking and education to lead the way in social media policy? It seems likely as they are the ones who need to make sure their policies are water tight. Will we see more jobs specific to writing social media policy? Will we see more legal social media policy roles evolving?

Lastly – here’s a cool twitter link – dedicated to Social Media Policy!

2. Laws relating to social media policy

I feel like I’ve touched on this a little in my comments above – however –here are some interesting articles that may help!

I thought Burrows comments regarding gathering information about policies form twitter interesting – as it highlights the speed at which social media policies really do move. However the question here is – although there are policies in place what legislation will back these up? And are these all up to date?

I found this really interesting – and thought it could be useful for you. I thought the article about the new online communications law in Missouri very interesting! Although a great idea – it seems very vague and all encompassing of all online activities. As the article says does this mean that teachers can’t talk to students or parents outside of the school at all??? Exactly what do “all online communications” extend to exactly? And does this relate to retired teachers and grown up students? What about those who have already established communications online – will this all need to be stopped now?

3. Ethics of Social Media Users

Cyber Bullying

I found this site informative – and it’s existence alone very interesting! A whole site dedicated to cyber bullying?! Wow that’s impressive!

I guess the hard part really is to draw the line on cyber bullying. What constitutes cyber bullying exactly? The site notes a few key factors: kind of threat, frequency, the source, the nature of the threat etc.

Also here are some examples of the results of cyber bullying:

4. Extra things!

Also here are a few extra things on ethics and developing media...
